Small Groups

why-banner1.jpgReal fellowship is much more than just showing up to church on Sunday mornings. When it comes to fellowship, size does matters: Smaller is better. You can worship with a crowd, but you can’t fellowship with one. Once a group becomes larger than about twelve people, someone starts participating and a few will dominate the group.

Just like your own body, the Body of Christ is a collection of many small cells. In addition, just like your body, the life of the Body of Christ is contained in cells. For this reason, every Christian needs to be involved in a small group. This is where real community takes place, not in the big gatherings.

Remember, Jesus ministered in the context of a small group of disciples. He could have chosen more, but he knew twelve is the optimal size you can have in a small group if everyone is to participate.

For 2000 years Christians have regularly meet in small groups for fellowship. If you have never been a part of a group, you really do not know what you are missing.
